Watch Project Chapel now
Project Chapel, a new documentary directed by Christopher Groban, follows the journey of one of the world's only quantum computers to its unlikely new home, a century old chapel on the campus of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. As the Chapel of St. Joseph’s Seminary becomes part of the renowned Voorhees Computing Center, a home for cutting-edge quantum innovation, the film explores the technology and the vision that made the milestone possible. We hear from experts and laymen alike striving to understand this unfathomable tool along with students and faculty whose anticipation and excitement are palpable. It is, after all, a landmark achievement.
From the presidents of the RPI Computer Club to lead researchers in the field overseeing the installation, we see the promise of quantum computing and the extent to which it has the potential to help solve some of the world's most complex challenges. Quantum computers harness the laws of quantum mechanics to process information and may solve problems that are too complex for classical supercomputers such as advancements in computational science research, artificial intelligence, and materials.
Project Chapel has been broadcast on public television stations across the country and is available for streaming on PBS Passport. The film was an official selection featured at the 62nd International Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival in 2025.
